Democratic Leaders Look to Kamala Harris as Biden's Campaign Struggles

(LLP) — Growing concerns over President Joe Biden's re-election campaign, top Democratic officials, operatives, and donors are increasingly turning their attention to Vice President Kamala Harris as a potential successor. According to CNN, two dozen Democratic politicians and operatives have expressed doubts about Biden's ability to salvage his campaign, despite his insistence on staying in the race.

Vice President Harris and her staff have maintained a united front, publicly supporting Biden and emphasizing her pride in working alongside him. However, subtle changes in her schedule and actions suggest a potential shift. She recently joined Biden for the Fourth of July picnic and fireworks, a departure from her usual Independence Day tradition.

Democratic leaders are already exploring options for Harris's running mate, with several governors topping the list, including Roy Cooper of North Carolina, Andy Beshear of Kentucky, Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania, J.B. Pritzker of Illinois, and Tim Walz of Minnesota.

A Democratic senator likened the situation to a star quarterback being replaced by a backup, emphasizing the need for a seasoned and familiar leader like Harris. However, the transition is fraught, as it would deny Harris the traditional deference given to presidential nominees in choosing their running mate.

As the Democratic Party navigates this uncertain landscape, logistics also come into play. Harris would have access to the Biden campaign's fundraising and infrastructure, making a potential transition more feasible.

Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story.
